Describe the following Biology terms: Natural Selection, Speciation, Hybrid, Extinction, Gregor Mendel.

Answer:
1. Natural Selection- The process in nature by which, according to Darwin’s theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated
2. Speciation- The evolutionary formation of new biological species, usually by the division of a single species into two or more genetically distinct ones
3. Hybrid- The offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock, especially the offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties, species, or races
4. Extinction- Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species; the historical development of a related group of organisms
5. Gregor Mendel- Austrian botanist and founder of the science of genetics. Through experiments with plants, chiefly garden peas, he discovered the principle of the inheritance of characteristics through the combination of genes from parent cells.
