Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA or PLAT)
It is a protein involved in the breakdown of blood clots.
As an enzyme, it catalyzes the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin, the major enzyme responsible for clot breakdown
Streptokinase
It is a protein produced by beta-haemolytic streptococcus
Mechanism: converse plasminogen to plasmin.
They must be administered within the first three hours of the event to be given intravenously, or within six hours to be administered through an arterial catheter directly to the site of occlusion.
Contraindications
Bleeding disorders, active bleeding and when there has been recent surgery.
Streptokinase is contraindicated in patients who have been previously treated with streptokinase, as there is a risk of anaphylaxis
